A Dufferin County Entrance Permit is required under the following circumstances (on Dufferin County roads only):
- construction of a new entrance
- changing the design of an existing entrance
- changing the location of an existing entrance
- changing the use of an existing entrance (ie) the classification
- construction of a temporary entrance
- paving of an existing entrance
Complete copy of Entrance Policy with all applicable applications and specifications
If your entrance is not onto a County road you do not need to contact us. You must comply with the regulations of the municipality in charge of that road. If you are not sure if your entrance is on a county road please refer to the County roads map.
How Much Does a Permit Cost?:
The following fees apply to entrance permits:

Residential $100 $300 $400
Commercial $200 $1000 $1,200
The refundable portion is returned once the entrance has been given final approval. Any deficiencies left by the property owner will be taken out of the deposit if required.
How Do I Get a Permit?
- Submit a completed Entrance Application Form and payment to the Public Works Department.
- Make sure you have clearly marked the proposed entrance (a stake will be provided at time of application at the Public Works office).
- If it is an existing entrance please ensure that you have included the emergency number on the application. If this is a new entrance please complete an Emergency Numbering application - Go to 9-1-1 Emergency Numbering
- A permit will be sent to you indicating all specifications including culvert size etc. See Specification Drawings
- Allow approximately 5-10 working days for approval.
- NOTE: Properties within a Conservation Authoritiy (ie: Niagara Escarpment, Grand River Conservation Authority, etc) must obtain the appropriate approvals before an entrance permit can be issued. Attach a copy of the documentation to the entrance application if applicable.
How Do I Get the Deposit Back?
Once the entrance is completed, as per the specifications on the permit, call or email the administration office publicworks@dufferincounty.on.ca to request a final inspection. If the entrance is approved, your deposit cheque will be mailed to you. Any deficiencies will be reported to you for correction.
